When Performance Anxiety Meets a Stress Ball (and a Really Good Lesson)

Today, Margot showed up with a stress ball in her hand—and a goal in her mind.

She’s 10 years old and has been taking lessons with me almost her entire life. This girl lives for performing. But lately? Even she’s felt the weight of a packed schedule: volleyball, basketball, and everything else that comes with being an awesome, involved kid.

Practice has been inconsistent. Confidence has been a little shaky.

But today, we worked through it.

We broke the piece into bite-sized wins.
We moved to the main room so she could feel the audience space.
We laughed. We repeated. We fixed. And then repeated again.

By the end, she looked up and said:
“I’m still a little nervous… but I’m ready to hit the stage.”

And honestly? That’s what recital prep is all about.

Not perfection. Not pressure.
But progress, self-trust, and walking out of the room with your head a little higher than when you came in.

I used to dread recitals, now, I love it! Learn the three things I gave up to have the best recitals for my studio.

Mentors don’t hoard the good stuff. 😉
