Recording CDs to Motivate, Inspire, and Remember Lessons

I am EXCITED to announce that my students will be recording their own CDs this year!  This will be a pretty big project but I really think it will be worth it in the end and let me tell you why.

The idea hit me one day while I was teaching Amber.  She was about to graduate high school and go off to college with a flute scholarship!  Amber really grew over the few years that I was able to teach her.  She played many pieces from IMEA auditions to solo and ensemble pieces and she even humored me and played with younger kids and music for the community ensemble I started putting together.

It finally occurred to me that we should have recorded all of her pieces as a memento.  So that is EXACTLY what we set out to do during her last month of lessons.

I’ll admit, the CD isn’t quite finished yet because I can never just keep things simple.   The flute tracks are recorded but now we are adding backing tracks to some of the pieces.   Think Flight of the Bumblebee meets Dubstep.

Oh, did I ever mention that Amber also played some of these songs with the electric flute?   No?  Well, I will save that for another post.

Now you might be wondering “what will students be recording and how will they be recording it?”

Students will be recording the music they are all ready working on!  That means they don’t have to stress out about extra music!   They will also be working on a composition project which means they will write and record their very own song!

The recordings will take place mostly in lessons!  We will be recording the songs into Garage Band on the iPad.  This means students will also be learning the basics of the technology side of things.

We will add in a photoshoot for the album cover and the release party will be in April!

Did you think I would stop there?  Well I’m here to tell you, I’m not!  You all know I LOVE a great project.  Especially, if the students are motivated, excited, and learning.
